allroad driven with handbrake on - overheat and smoke
Hello folks,
My colleague drove my allroad with hand-brake on for about 2 miles; someone stopped and told him in the lights that the brakes are smoking. He then stopped the car for few minutes and then brought it back.
I din't care much about it. After 200 miles, both my outer CV boots are ripped in the same place. When I turn left or right, it seems to be fine (no sounds or clicking). Now, should i replace just the CV boot? I can't do this by myself - repair shops want to do the axles too - no one just want to do the boot only.
1. Could driving with handbrakes would have caused this? What other parts were at risk by driving with handbrakes?
2. Should i buy the axles from raxles and replace the whole axles? Or, should I just look for someone who would replace just the outer boots?
3. Anything else I need to worry about?
Thank you

which cv boots, front or back?
if front, no connection whatsoever
if rear, mmmmmm, doubtful there too
cv boots are fairly easy to diy, there's a writeup on how to do it, can post it later when i find it

Have a look at the boots on the inner CV's. If they are in good condition then I would keep my axles and just replace the outer CV's. And I would be replacing the CV, not just the boot. If your driving around with broken boots, then the dirt is in the grease. The difference in labour for a boot to the complete CV is minimal. The originals I believe are GKN brand.
