Okay, my fan blew up after 14 yrs of service on my 2002 allroad quattro 2.7L.

I used a crescent wrench (12" harbor freight) 6.99 and an allen wrench. place the allen wrench long ways between the larger openings on the pulley to the right and bottom of the pulley is a place for the allen wrench to go into a stop plate.

If you drop anything it is best to take off the skid plate so that it just falls straight down.

I hope this helps. Yes i had to take off the intake on the right side. i dropped about everything i could into the skid plate until i ran out of tools.
