Anyone ever gutted the stock mufflers? If yes is it noise tolerable?

Default Anyone ever gutted the stock mufflers? If yes is it noise tolerable?
I'm doing research on gutted mufflers. I read the guy with a tt porsche just gutted the stock mufflers with substantial powergains, 17HP, just by gutting the mufflers. He had dyno results to prove it. I'm thinking about it.

Default if you were interested in picking up a used stock one to try it out without risking yours
you should let me know. I might be persuaded to let my old one go pretty cheap.

Default I think my exhaust is still sitting on the top...
of the muffler shops pile. YOurs for the taking on LI, NY.

Default Where are you located?
There's a local guy here who simply deleted the mufflers completely - just welded on straight pipe and 4" tips - and it sounds good.

That'd save Andrew or Paul the hassle of shipping, if you really want something to experiment with. If you like, though, I'm sure I can get you sound clips of my friend's deleted-muffler allroad.
