Default New Audi purchase in Texas (Doc fee & Dealer Inventory tax)

Folks -

I just signed papers for a new A7 and am arranging financing through the Bank I work for. Once I got home yesterday and am working through the numbers, saw 2 charges that I wasnt aware of:

1) Dealer Documentation fee - $125.00
2) Dealer Inventory Tax - $157.86

Are these fees normal? Should I discuss with the dealer before paying them off?
thanks in advance!

Maybe you haven't purchased a car for a while, but it seems everyone is trying to get away with these. I see them range from $100 to $600, possibly more. No, you don't have to agree to pay any of it...personal decision. It's all rooted in the general public needing to buy cars 'at invoice' or less. They need to make it up somewhere so a little creative padding is heaped on the deal.

I do not find any humor in these types of fees. They are both fees that are not required and usually not disclosed until after the price is negotiated. These are upcharges that have no value attached for the purchaser.

The Tax is a proprety tax that the Dealer must pay for what they had on the lot at the first of the year. They are making YOU pay for their inventory before you owned it. In Texas it's .02%. It is not a legal requirement for the purchaser of the car to pay that.
