Can a bad coil pack melt the connector 2003 2.7T allroad
I have a 2003 all road quattro and yesterday I got a funny smell and I blew a engin control fuse #29 I think. I replaced the fuse and then found that the connector for one of my coils was smoking and melting. The wires are touching each other when I pull back the boot and the connector is melted. It is the 3 prong connector and I found a used replacement on ebay that I am just going to wire in since I think mine is shot. Could a bad coil pack melt the connector or was it probably the wires just touching each other due to failed rubber coating or something? I am thinking of replacing the connector and all 6 coil packs. I just dont want to replace the connector and have a coil pack melt it again.

not sure about the pack going bad, the ones you have can last 200k+ miles
it does look like oil dripping out of the pack connector, could be a source of your troubles

Yea I would not trust that coil. Those coils do usually last 200k+ but its not impossible for them to short out internally and cause the melt down at the weakest point, the connector.
