Coil pack replacement - recommendations appreciated
If this question has been asked and answered, my apologies.
I searched and couldn't find what I was looking for.
I'm doing the valve covers on my '03 2.7t Allroad, and thought I might as well do the plugs and coil packs.
I'm looking for feedback or recommendations of coil pack brands/sources, that are good/dependable as well as the ones to stay away from.
Saving on cost would of course be a consideration, but I won't quibble over $5 per pack, if it means the difference between quality or crap.
Also, would appreciate thoughts on replacing the Coil pack connectors, while I'm at it.
To my knowledge this will be the first time this service has been done.
Car has 180,xxx miles and no issues....it's just preventative maintenance.
Thanks in advance.

you have several options
you can go OEM from the dealer and have your wallet raped
you can buy from ecs tuning, europa parts, rm european, for oem/oe packs for cheaper than the stealer
or ebay
i went ebay, found a copy cat pack of coils for 70 shipped i think for all 6
runs great, considering
personally i would wait some more, the coil packs for the 2.7 are very long lived, i didnt change mine till after 200k, and im sure they were the original ones from the factory.
connectors, like they say, if it aint broke dont fix it

I did the 2.0 coil conversion. I didn't buy the full kit, because they are overpriced. I bought the packs, connectors and Toureg spacers on Amazon. I saved about $50 over the conversion kits from the aftermarket suppliers. Not a single misfire since.
I have my old coil packs if you want some cheap spares.

Thanks guys...
Papertoast...I'll take a look at the normal sources again (ESC, Europa and others) as well as Ebay and see about putting together the parts I need.
I agree the dealership is NOT the place for many parts, especially here in Lakewood CO...I don't trust them.
I figure I have the cash now and time, so I might as well do the packs.
I hate getting lights/codes and then trying to guess which 1 out of 50 components, might be causing the issue(s).
This way I know they're done and less likely to be the root cause, of a future problem.
I agree with you, the connectors can wait, unless the wiring cracks/comes apart in my hands, when I do this work.
Mrkid...thanks for the offer, but I will just hold on to my old packs, when I swap them. Like I said, no misfires or problems, so I'm sure they'll be fine as spares.
Thanks again guys, I appreciate you taking the time to lend your advice and experiences.

Sorry, I missed the part about it being preventive. I assumed you were getting misfire codes.
The packs aren't as fragile as some people think, I just wanted to get rid of the ICM's, so I had to convert.
