Default Mostly Hwy, I'm getting 20-22mpg w/ 6-speed '04

Running premium fuel. I haven't dipped below 20 yet. All highway was 22-24 on a 6 hour trip, each way.

Default Re: I don't mind the 'round town 17-19, but the lame hwy mileage bugs me.

allroads rev too high in 5th. I typically cruise right around 70 and am pulling over 3000 RPM, that's too high. Revs in 5th at 70 mph should be below 2500.

Fun follow up - more than 10 years later the mileage has actually gone up! Our last trip to Colorado we saw averages as high as 24 on the highway although city driving only nets us about 16 mpg.

Another interesting note - I wonder if it could partially be down to tire pressures? I finally consulted the sticker on the door recently and found I'd been underinflating the tires - it calls for 39 front and 42 rear!

I was running 35/32, like I run on my '09 MINI.

Since I have the machine at my disposal at school I exchanged the air for nitrogen, just for fun

Default Recent 2005 C5 AR and the mileage

So I recently purchased a AR and I love it. It's a late model 2005 with 117K with mainly factory maintenance and no mods. When I purchased the car it was reading 18.6 in the history but since I have reset it and have been running 19.8ish which seems to go down 0.1 or 0.2 when I put my foot down.

It's hard to not put the foot down. I was looking for the ultimate MPG and think I found it...

It seems 6.0MPG is best guzzling achieved...

Default Crazy good for you!

I almost never get over 20mpg, even with mostly highway miles at sea level, and I measure it by hand at every fill-up.
Maybe there's a problem I have not noticed for 11 years of ownership.
Clean premium gas, fresh oil changes.
18 on average.
I can't say I do any special light-footed tricks; just drive.

2004 2.7Tip. 160K miles.
