ipod hook up
I know this has probably been covered several times before, however, looking for the best product out there for hooking up my ipod to play directly into my symphony stereo. I'd like to do the install myself, however have heard, that getting the radio out is a @#!*. Any advise would be much appreciated. 05', 4.2.

getting the radio out is easy if you have keys. if not 5.00 to the kid a best buy works too. I've been happy with the old Dension Ice Link. You can find them on Ebay or the new company that took them over. Just keep searching. Keep in mind that most do not work with the Ipod you bought today. They generally work with older Pods and none of them will show artist or track in on the head unit.

I have the Dice Electronics iPod link, which I had custom installed so my ipod sits in the tray under the armrest. It works with the steering wheel controls to change playlists or songs within playlists. The guys who installed it said it was quite the tight fit to get the headunit back in place with the new wires.

I ordered and installed the DICE unit last week.
The radio was a PITA to get out until I ordered the right keys from Crutchfield. Then it came out in less than 2 mins. There is a youtube video of Audi stereo removal out there as well.
Drop the glove box and bury the control unit in any space you can. Make sure your dip switches are set correctly and you should be in business.
I ran the control cord down the center column and out the emergeny brake gap.
I then use a piece of velcro to hold the iPOD in place - this looks a LOT better than it sounds and the functionality is great. I'll see if I can snap a pic later on and post it.
Good luck with this

Hate to say this but if you have a cassette player in your dash it works well and does not prevent use of a sat radio or phat box. I use a high quality cassette adapter and run the wire under the radio and out the passenger well to my Kuda mount.

Dice & iPhone/iPod
Agree that Dice is the way to go & that it is a tight fit with satellite radio connected. Control unit in the glovebox & connector wired thru the console. It works with original iPhone; have not tried 3G yet.
