Default oil in bi pipes 2 part question

i finally started tearing the car apart to change the valve cover gaskets and what im afraid is the timing belt and who knows what else. my question is this first off there was quite a bit of oil in the bi pipes what does this mean? and secondly the rubber boot was split across the middle. how much will this harm performance of the car ? the split was pretty bad

Oil in the pipes is normal, but you have to be specific on what boot you mean.

To now, you lost the one fourth to one third of your performance. A guy in similar situ told me he felt it as it was 140hp max. Maybe you did not notice it because the effect (AR performance with split Y-pipe) is not a knockout to the majority of US cars

Throttle body boots are a known issue. They have too many openings, in too small an area, with too much stress on it, near too much heat. Replace it with a nice silicone unit. If you can afford it, buy an entire silicone boost tube kit and replace them all.
