Default May Purchase 2001 Audi allroad

Hello Everyone,

I have always liked Audi but never had the money to buy one. A local dealer is selling a 2001 Audi allroad. I'm considering trading in my 2005 Mazda MPV with about 55K mileage for a 2001 allroad with 119K mileage.

A few questions about the allroad and Audi in general. How good is the allroad and how often does it require repairs? I have had the Mazda now for 2 years and the only thing I have paid for is oil changes, tire rotations and that is it. Of course I didn't drive it all that much either; in two years it has only driven 6-7 thousand miles.

Any information about the allroad from current and previous owners is greatly appreciated. I do like the car but don't want to get into something that may cost me my shirt.

I would start by reading these recent threads on the topic, but I'm sure there are mnay more too.

Compared to the Mazda, the allroad will likely be much more expensive to own and maintain.

Here is another link comparing model years:

Be careful. If you want to own a fun car that's a big step up from a Mazda in ergonomics, class and quality know that you WILL pay for it. If you decided you're ready to try it and know it will be expensive, then go for it. If money's a concern and the only way to make it work is to buy an older ride and pray it's dependable, I would NOT recommend it! The more handy you are, the better off you will be with an Audi, as you can mitigate the repair costs by doing it yourself.

If you are planning to buy a used Allroad, the most important thing is to know the service history, for example, My 2001 has had all the suspension airbags replaced, timing belt, new plugs, New Transmission, new tires, lots of little odds and ends... Complete with all service records from Day one. That would give you a lot of piece of mind I would think.
