Torque Converter Bad – Error Code
Here's the error code: 17125 Torque Converter Clutch
P0741 - 35-10 - Stuck OFF / No Power being transferred - intermittent
At this point, undrivable, car barely moves forward or backward.

Personally, I would swap in a manual transmission and not mess with the auto anymore. I plan on keeping my allroad for a long time and with 192k miles currently on the odometer these things are a reality in my mind.
A manual swap will probably cost you about $2-3,000 in parts and then another $1500 or so in labor if you don't want to do it yourself. This will be about what it would cost to rebuild your auto but you won't have to worry about that weak link anymore.
Then again, you could try to sell the allroad for as much as you can and try to find a manual allroad if you want to avoid all the hassle of putting it under the knife. Or, if the allroad experience has gotten to you, bail out now and go with something else.

If you can live with the engine light just drive it. They dont cause any problems. The converter just wont lock up on the highway so it will lose 1-2 mpgs. It will wear the fluid more since the converter can never lock so just have the fluid changed and drive the car. It wont break down, and you probably will never even notice it.

I’ve been getting the VAG intermittent power transfer error for several months, and now the “no power being transferred” error. It could be just the torque converter, but I’m pretty sure that a transmission shop would not a repair/guarantee without a transmission rebuild too…and a $4,000 to $5000 charge (??). It’s a loaded 2001 AR has only 80k miles, new timing belt kit, looks good and runs great. But I can’t convince myself to invest in it. What do you think…sell “as is” for ???, sell parts, or invest? I’m leaning toward getting rid of it since I just don’t trust that another big issue isn’t just down the road. Opinions?
You did not describe the car's symptoms(?)...if the TCC was going on and off, you have to be unconscious not to feel it. You'd also have to be unconscious not to feel the loss of the TCC lock-up function...not to mention losing even more mpg's on a car with already crap gas mileage.
Again, what are your codes #'s ?
