Transmission woes
My wife's 2001 Allroad has 104,000 miles on it and the reverse is going. I had a reputable shop look at it and they changed the filter and fluid. They said it needs a new tranny. They quoted me $7050 for a rebuilt one from Audi with a 12 month/ 12000 warranty or they could put in a used one for $3300 with a 90 day warranty. The prices all include installation. Also no codes from the transmission. Is there any place I could get a rebuilt transmission other than from Audi? I would like to buy a rebuilt one and just have them install it. I am hoping I can gat a rebuilt one installed for $5000 or less. Thanks for you input.

You need another quote from a good transmission shop that knows ZF trannys on having your current tranny rebuilt. Early Allroads had a fault in the reverse gear drum and torque converter problems. Your's just needs a new upgraded reverse drum and while in there get the torque converter upgrade. After that it should be good for thousands of more miles. Best guess is about $4k for the job. It's mostly labor with just a few parts.
