What do all these warning lights mean anyway?
My wife and I bought a 2003 AR with about 17,000 miles on it in September. Other than a failed hazard light indicator/switch and this problem, eveything has been great. We have about 22,000 miles on it now.
Anyway, the allroad has 'lite-it-up' a few times with the below combination of warning lights. It may not be relevent, but one of the similarities between occurances was an outside tempeture in the low 20's.
We asked the dealer about it, but they claim they can't do anything unless they scan the car when the indicator lights are on. As an aside, that explanation runs counter to my understanding of the VAG-COM's ability to record when the car throws codes. Am I thinking about that wrong?
Please forgive my below descritpion of indicator lights. This problem has only occured when my wife is driving so I am using her best explanation of what the warning lights look like.
Left guage
1) Ride Height adjustment icon (car with up & down arrows)
2) Circle w/Triangle icon
Right guage
3) ABS warning

this is a very common warning..
And the dealer is not 100% correct. Perhaps you should go to another dealer.
However, the common caus of the trio is the brake pedal switch. Some dealers (volume ones) know this by the description, other will scan it and some symptoms can't be tracked while other's can with the Vag.
In my case..a few time, this can be tracked witrh the scan tool. I suggest a better service writter or another dealer.

My experience in L.A.
This has happened to me maybe 5 times or so since April 2004. In fact it happened on Saturday. That day it rained in L.A. for the first time in a few weeks, and was unusually cold. I drove for 15 minutes then shut it off. Next time I started the car , as with several other times it has happened, the lights went away. I think a few other times it happened, I went to the dealer, and they cleared the codes while I waited. So it seems to me like it's not something to worry about. Maybe it's related to changes in humidity.

MUST DO for cold weather warning lights issue....
My (yellow DIS {center led screen}) tire pressure warning (master failure) light would come on below 40 degrees. I had the dealer witness and then document the occurrence two times. They could not fix it or duplicate the issue after the car was turned off and on again. Immediately after the four year warranty ended the light came on all the time. The dealer replaced all the tire pressure sensors and some other component in the car based upon the fact that it was previously documented and not able to be repaired during the warranty period. Never let a dealer note your paperwork "unable to duplicate" when the issue is occurring right under their nose. Always have them document that they observed the symptom.
