Default Would you tow this boat with your ar?

I know the limits of the car are 4500 pounds in europe. I have the 4.2 and have it chipped, so HP is over 340 and torque is also well over 300 ft/lb. Has anyone ever towed this much weight, and how did it do? Would you try it?

In general, I don't think you should try to tow something that weighs 50% more than the tow vehicle unless the tow vehicle is set up for towing, with frame reinforcements, transmission coolers, stiffer and heavier suspension, bigger brakes etc.

Can you do it? Probably....

Should you do it? No, not in my opinion.......

This seems like a job for a good pick-up truck or large body on frame SUV, either one with a factory installed towing package.

No F-n way... it's not the power of the car it's the mass and brake power. Plus that boat is REALLY ugly. Just sayin'.

no.

Not only the things mentioned above, but under braking the pressure on the hitch and rear suspension would be way too much. I pulled about 4K with mine once but was an emergency type thing (dead car which I trailered), the allroad pulled it but it wasn't comfortable it also got warm going up hills, didn't overheat but was heading that way when I finally got over to the top.

fj..

what if you installed trailer brakes? at least the stopping issue would be lessened then.

No way, no how......that boat would push the AR all over the place on braking, would make the tongue weight pretty nasty simply driving (which makes for poor control). BTW, the curb weight would be a bit more.......7lbs per gallon of fuel and your toys would add up quickly.

Further, you would risk some legal exposure if you knowingly exceeded the max weight rating and towed anyhow......and got into a wreck.

Just my 2 cents...
