Re: The Compact Performance SUV: Audi Cross Coupe quattro
say hello to the design of the first 2/3rds of the Audi Q5!
could someone photoshop a Q7 tail on that thing?
can't wait to get one of these...

Looks like Audi's answer to Subaru. Not bad though...
I like it, and it's very practical for skiing/hiking/roadtrips here in the Pacific NW. But for it to be interesting at all, it would need to come with a manual transmission. S-Tronic, while a phenomenal automatic, isn't as satisfying to drive as a good 6-spd manual. (This is a personal preference. I don't mean to dig up the whole "DSG is actually a manual" debate.)
Also, I was surprised the press release said Haldex, not Torsen. Is this based on the A3 rather than the A4? Haldex is fine with me; an automatic is not.
(snip)
The quattro permanent four-wheel drive system is a matter of course on an Audi with offroad potential. A Haldex clutch ensures that traction is precisely distributed according to the situation. The sporty Audi S tronic dual-clutch gearbox executes gearshifts in a matter of milliseconds.

It's based on the A3 platform. Horizontally engine placement, hence, Haldex. The Q5 will be based on the new A4, A5, A6 platform. Motor placement is longitude, therefore, Torsen.

Interesting. This is based on the A3/TT platform...
... with front-biased Haldex quattro and a transverse engine layout. It therefore looks to be a sister concept to the VW Tiguan.
Is this a preview of the announced Q5, or is it a smaller SUV that would slot below it? Perhaps a 'Q3'?
I would have thought that a Q5 concept would be based on the A4/A5's new platform, and would get the arguably superior rear-biased Torsen quattro.
Nevertheless its a striking design.
