Default MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAVE TO BUY AN ALTERNATOR FOR 95 S6--WHERE'S A GOOD PLACE??

One in Gmbh for like $725.

Any other alternatives? Reman failed after 8000 miles.

Thanks & Happy Holidays--Tom

FAP99 or Arizona Autohaus are popular for non-OE UrS parts.

I forgot to suggest GVAP for OE parts:

genuinevwaudiparts.com

And specifically for the 046903015FX

Audi Parts - genuinevwaudiparts.com

and for the 054903015FX the same source shows NLA

Etka is showing Bosch or Valeo choices. Valeo is a 90 amp and shouldn't be on your S6. But I show 2 Bosch choices and both are 120 amp units. The 078-903-015-C also called part number OE part number 078-903-015-F or FX appears to be for the AFC V6 engine. The S6 on the other hand uses 054-903-015-k for up to 8-95, and after 8-95 uses 046-903-015-f, the strange thing is the OE p/n alternator on either production date vehicle is 046-903-015-F or FX (FX means reman part as opposed to just F which means brand new parts). I can't get either one but wanted to give you this information as I see it to help you make sure you get the right one for your car by using part numbers to cross whatever it is you end up buying.

I don't know what I did with my previous links but I screwed them up. I have revised them as below :

And specifically for the 046903015FX

Audi Parts - genuinevwaudiparts.com

and for the 054903015FX the same source shows NLA

Audi Parts - genuinevwaudiparts.com

That said, alternators can be rebuilt, often locally.

EVEN MORE IMPORTANT, what about the voltage regulator? They go bad and can fairly easily be replaced:

028903803D (or DX) is the regulator for the "18" alternator, i.e. 054903015FX

and 028903803E is the regulator for the "19" alternator. i.e. 046903015FX

Thanks, Jeff. I've located an OE unit in Germany & there are reman units listed in the states for $200+. Wonder if I can "get away" with a reman?

Thanks,

Tom
