Default Updated C4 UrS (and 100/A6) heater core replacement DIY pdf

This is based on the previous version I posted in March that was itself based on kinderutz's (aka "Superman's") 2.5 hr heater core instructions and me helping quattro20V to do his 97 UrS6 heater core in January 2013.

In this current revision, I have incorporated new photos that I took during the recent heater core replacement on my 98 C4 A6 avant as well as some hints as what to do and what NOT to do not previously included in the DIY that I discovered while doing the 98 C4 avant heater core. Live and learn. Too soon old, too late smart.

The key point in all this is kinder's "2.5 hr" instructions eliminates the need for removing the consoles as well as the dash. I have to admit that there were times that I wondered whether it would have been easier to just remove the consoles. However, I worked out the kinks I was experiencing (with input from kinder and other forum members) and, in the end, avoiding removing the consoles is definitely the way to go.

Thanks again kinderutz. ;>)

Enjoy. (I suggest you down load and save it and then open it)

Thanks. I cut and pasted the URL from *elsewhere* and apparently, I cut off the ".pdf" part of the URL. Fixed now.

Default access to heater core

So we have the heater box open and the core looks like they put some sort of resin or glue to hold it in place is it normal? Scared to tear it out without ripping the box.. Also there is a crack in the heater box not very big. Is that going to effect anything? Thank you. I know this is an old post but hope I get a reply! Thank you!!

Yup. They put a sealant in there which you have to remove and then reapply. I am quite sure that I flagged that in the pdf. You won't rip the box.

Not sure about the crack. Probably not a real issue. Fix with a plastic glue. Or post a photo for a better assessment.

Thanks and what is the glue called? I really appreciate your step by step it really has helped with this whole process! I don't usually work on cars and an Audi at that.

Always good to read a DIY all the way through *BEFORE* starting in case there are pitfalls or tricks that need to be considered along the way.

In this case, no harm done.
