Default 08 S6 Experience - Problems, Warranty +....

Bought an 08 S6 and traded in 06 S4 with a GM dealer in October, 13. I thought the price was mot bad as the S4 had 133km and quite a bit of paint chips ( without clear bra). Had to do the front brakes as part of the price concession. Then the MMI was having problems to adjust heat, seat warmers etc. Dealer thought I needed new unit for $1600. Just before x'mas, no starting and where's up to replace battery MMI works fine suddenly.
Then, drover side cooling fan would not stop running after touchless car wash. Also, heating was way low as we were having a very cold winter in Alberta, Canada. While have8Ng the brakes done, serviced advisor informed e that my S6 has Audicare and CPO warranty until April 1, 2014.
The warranty transfer took more than 6 weeks as I sent a check for the transfer fees without the related taxes of $7,50. Finally had the car in for diagnosis. Audi CPO covered an electrical harness on the driver side coolInc fan but, the passenger side cooling fan had a corroded control unit, needed replacement and $2,200. Audi would not cover water corrosion. I have no idea how water got in the electrical components. After the facts, I would suspect the GM dealer may have use car lot monkeys power washed the engine bath without proper procedures to protect electrical components. Lesson to be learnt, do not power wash the Audi engine bay.
Fortunately I had also purchased a GM extended warranty which covers all items except the electronics. Took almost 2 weeks and finally approved by GM to repair the passenger side cooling fan.
The S6 is very different to the S4. Not as fast as the S4 was 6MT, I did a lot of engine braking and got going much faster. The S6 I had to relied a lot on the brakes as its winter driving as well as conserving GAS! City driving on the S4, I managed around 15 to 17 litre per 100km (15MPG), with S6, it would run about 12-13 MPG in the cold. The S6 is more refine, more room in the rear seats for kids, bigger truck for my road bike, great ventilation for smokers. Since the S6 is fully loaded, I rather have more buttons to control everything than the MMI, repair cost would be much lower.

My suggestions:
- always get extended warranty on used Audi, have to work out all the kinks;
- engine bay wash must be done by someone knows what he's doing, electrical is a problem for Audi;
- Audi CPO means not everything is covered, you could look at expensive repairs!

Interesting story. Just one thing. This is the UrS4/S6 forum, for the 1992-97 C4 20 Valve turbo inline sedans and avants. You might get a better response at the proper S6 or S4 forum.
