Default HR springs, what shocks?

Ok, last one this morning. I'm running HR springs and Koni yellows on my 1995 Avant, and the konis have about had it after several years.

What are my replacement options? Should I stick with the konis or is there another choice worth looking at?

The konis go through upper front strut mounts at least once a year, which isn't a problem given the settings and the road conditions they have to deal with sometimes, but I'm curious as to what else is out there.

Lots of C4 folks like Konis and H&Rs. If your off Konis, then the shorter Bilsteins (Sports) are another option. (I run Bilstein Sports with my Eibachs (NLA)).

Thanks, that's just what I needed. I like my Koni yellows, but I suspect they're worn out. My roads are pretty mean- My front upper shock mounts fail yearly, and I don't run a particularly stiff setting on the Konis. I could send them out for a rebuild, but I'd need soem sort of replacement because I can't have the car down for that long.

The back end feels totally shot- though it occurs to me that could be the rear upper mounts rather than the shock themselves. I'll have to take it apart and look.

FYI (in case you didn't know this): Front shock inserts can be removed and replaced without removing the strut from the car. Some minor tricks needed to get the top threaded cap (Item 34) off the strut.

Yup! I have the special tool to remove the OEM hex cap. Very, very nice feature. Too bad it doesn't work in the back!

When prepping for the rear shocks, make sure you start by pre-spraying the item 27 nuts (and the studs that are welded to the body that Item 27 attaches to) with PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, etc. a few days in advance so the nut comes off without snapping the stud (= world of pain in the ash).
