SPARK PLUGS VERY TIGHT--AFRAID I'M GOING TO SNAP--PLEASE GIVE ME SOME POINTERS
Changing Plugs & coil packs. Spark plugs not budging at what should be proper torque to remove.
What should I do--don't want to snap or ruin threads!
Thanks!
Tom

1. wait until the engine is cold to try removing them. If they haven't been changed in a long time that will make them harder to remove. Try some penetrating oil pb blaster or the like.
If you can once they are free unscrew them by hand same goes for installing the new plugs thread them in by hand first.

That's what I did.
But I could care less if a plug snapped. I did not want to pull threads out of the head. Keep soaking them and get a long breaker bar.
i was under the impression that the carbon builds up around the plug and threads. That is why they tell you to have the injection cleaning done. to clean the combustion chamber and the top of the piston.
This is just me and a fellow tech were thinking about as we tried to get my plugs out.

Threadserts are a sign that one of the previous owners was clueless about keeping the sparkplugs tight (22 lb-ft) and at least one of them blew out of the head, taking the threads with it. The solution was either a new head or threadserts (or better, Timeserts). Regardless, they should not have caused an issue with removing the sparkplugs after the repair. I wouldn't be surprised if you found that the sparkplugs had been Loc-Tited (tm) into the threadserts because the clueless person was overly paranoid about that happening again.
Normal preventative maintenance = checking your spark plugs for tightness a few times between oil changes.

Yes, the car had Time-Sets in it & took almost 40 Lbs to unseat the plugs. Unfortunately, one of the Time-Serts came out with the plug & about 3/8" broke off & stayed in the head. I talked to the Time-Sert tech & he said not unheard of. I used the Time-Sert repair kit & it is back together. Quite a saga for a plug change.
Thanks,
Tom

I have not heard that checking your plugs every 1500 miles is normal preventative maintenance. I dont check mine at all? I do however change them every other year. My car only gets about 6-7k a year though, but it does do a few track days a year? I'll have to ask 2 Bennett about this?
