Hello guys!

I drive a 2006 Audi a6 avant wagon 3.2 liter quatro.

I was wondering if I could install a custom radio in my car?

I stopped by one of those places that do car radios and etc, and he said it would cost about $700 to put one radio in it??

I only have a CD player and it gets annoying to have to make disks and etc, but I was wondering if it was possible to do it.

you might get lucky and have an mp3 cd changer... which means you could hold over 100 songs instead of 15 on a regular cd... but probably not on a 2006. I think in the software version (software update) screen you can tell, though I have not verified if I have it on my 2007 so I don't know exactly how to tell.


alternatively you can try and find an ami system at a junk yard or on ebay. You also need the harness - I posted the part numbers on the AMI part #s thread below. I was able to score the entire setup for $167. It came with an ipod/iphone cable but you can buy cheap usb cables off amazon to hook up a usb stick, or harddrive if you want to go really big. The AMI complete system is about $900 from a dealer...


There are also other solutions like Denison etc that I believe are only a couple hundred new but I know nothing about those. good luck.


Also if you keep the oem stereo you can add a backup camera. I got all my parts/cables used (ebay & junk yards - car-part.com) for the camera for less than $300
