Dude, at this point just buy a new iPod. If you can afford a 2016 A6, you can certainly afford to go get a new iPod. It'll solve your problems quickly and easily by eliminating any version problems between the iPod and the A6.

Lol, ya, I hear you, but a new ipod won't help me recover the thousands of songs that are on the one I have. That is what I am trying to preserve and transfer. I put the songs on the ipod in like 2006, ripped from CDs I no longer own. BTW, MMI requires iOS 9.0 to run and this device will accept nothing later than iOS 3.1, so that;s not going to solve my problem either.

I actually connected into my old Apple account by guessing username/password. Looks like I may have no choice but to download itunes to my computer...ugh. Thanks for your suggestions though.

Be sure to set up iTunes on your computer using the same acct as you used on your iPod. Once synched to iTunes, copy the songs onto an SD card from your library iTunes music folder, not directly from iTunes itself. Best to create folder hierarchy on the SD card as "artist>album>song".

Meh. iTunes on a PC isn't the best software I've ever used but it isn't the worst either. Besides, why in the world would you keep 1000s of songs in ONE ancient iPod? What if it died? By getting iTunes going you'll have at least one more copy of all your music. Really, you should have a couple of copies, at least one being offsite.
