Default AMI iPod has lost last song recall/memory

I have a 2012 A5 with AMI. I have a 4th Gen. iPod Touch that stays in the glovebox and is only used for my music via AMI cable.

Within the last few weeks, it is no longer remembering the last song that was playing whenever the car is turned off for more than a few minutes. When I start the car again the iPod (or the AMI) resets to the first song in my library. I then have to reset the AMI to play/shuffle all songs again.

Honestly, I don't know if this is an Apple/iPod issue or an Audi issue and am posing this question on both forums in the hope that someone else might have a similar experience, or suggestions?
