Default iPod/iPhone lightning connectivity.

I have an A4 B7 with the symphony head unit. It already has the iPod dock with the 30 pin connector in the glove box. I want to be able to connect either my iPod or iPhone 6 plus to charge and play music.

Can/Should it just get the apple 30 pin to lightning connector from Apple? Will it allowe me to play my music thru the head unit and charge my phone?

Should I just replace the cable from the head unit with a new AMI/lightning cable?

Laterunner77, the Apple 30 pin to Lightning connector works for me for both playing music and recharging on all the vehicles listed below. I suggest you purchase original Apple kit, the quality of "plug compatible" components on Amazon and eBay vary widely...

And many of those non-Apple adapters don't work in the Audi AMI application - they can either play music but not charge or will charge but won't pass sound. Spend the extra few bucks and save yourself a headache.
