Default OptiCoat Wheel Performance

The most recent posting from Phil got me thinking. I've seen a lot of recommendations for OptiCoat (and other wax/sealants) on wheels to make brake dust not stick or easier to clean, but I've never seen examples that demonstrate their effectiveness.

I tried Armor All Wheel Protectant a couple months ago and it works pretty well at preventing brake dust from sticking (I posted pics here and on a couple other sites), but it's not perfect, and I'm still looking for something that will keep wheels pristine looking between washes.

About the strongest endorsement I've seen for OptiCoat, Collinite 845, etc. is that they make the wheels easier to clean, not that they keep them cleaner.

Can anyone comment (preferably with pics comparing different treatments) about their experience with OptiCoat on wheels?

I can give you my thoughts.

Have had them on all my current cars now for 1-2 years.

They definitely make cleaning easier. The opti coat will prevent brake dust etching on the wheels.

I have had opti coat on my LM-R's for 2 years now and they still look great!

I guess I have never experienced "etching". Does that only happen on non-clearcoated wheels?

What are LM-Rs?
