Engineers use existing and emerging technology to create goods and services.
A financial engineer is no different.
We use the universe of existing financial products to build custom financial product solutions for institutional clients to help them hedge their interest rate and fx risk.
The more conventional term for what I do would be Interest Rate Derivatives Trader - but since I have a P Eng, I prefer the term financial engineer :-)
