Installed new lifters, still ticking
I installed a full set of 10 new lifters purchased from Autohauz in my 1987 4000 quattro cs, 5 cylinder with 178k miles. Changed oil, 20-50w castol, 3.7 quarts. It is just as noisey as the ones I removed?
I plan to remove the valve cover and measure camshaft to lifter clearances to find the specific noise maker. If there is no big gaps then I can assume that I have a sludge or oil passage blockage issue?
I will also try adding the extra 1/2 quart oil. I noticed my oil pan is pushed up on the bottom a noticable amount, maybe 1/2 to 3/4 inch, possible problem?
Very disappointed that the new lifters didn't fix the loud ticking. Engine is running good otherwise.
I am looking for any advice and fixes. Thanks for your help, Patrick
