Left Turn Fail: Death of the Avant

First, sorry to be gone so long. Spent my mod money on an engagement ring, and so now we're planning the nuptuals. Slowly.
And it's just as well. On January 14, I was in Pentagon City, going straight through an intersection, and an 80+ year-old woman in a Sentra came straight off the freeway and decided to turn an unprotected left into my driver's door. I deflected to the right, and hit a Camry waiting at the light, finally coming to rest on an island, tearing up the undercarriage.
I felt -- and still feel -- fine except for what's likely a strained ligament in my left knee. However, the EMTs insisted on cutting me out of the car via driver's door, taking me out on a backboard and C-collar, and taking me to Arlington Hospital.
As you can see, the side curtain airbag went off, but thankfully, the front airbag didn't.
After some negotiating, our insurance company (both with GEICO) totalled the car for a decent settlement, and I had a whopping 16 days to buy a new car. That expired last Friday.
The finalists: 2008+ MBZ C-class, 2006+ BMW 3-series, B7 A4 3.2, maybe a 2006-2007 MBZ C-class.
Final choice, totally unexpected: B8 A4 2.0T, a demo from Tischer with 4K mi, Ice Silver Metallic. My fiancee's words: "Oh, just buy the damn Audi already."
Anyway, the Avant's last duty was keeping me safe, but I still miss it. It represented a lot of help all of you gave me in learning about it, and selling/donating parts and labor. apk and I skinning knuckles and bending tools over the brakes. Roger going all OCD on the dealer's sticker on the tailgate. Jimax starting things off by asking if anyone had a B6 with standard suspension.
Thanks, everyone. So... Take Two?

Ouch...sorry to hear, Dan. Glad you're alright, though. I was starting to wonder where you
disappeared to...
Sounds like the new ride will be great, though. It's no Avant, but it will have to do.

Thx, Adam. Avants...Tourings...VERY difficult to find. So, folding seats will do.
I could tell stories about the search -- watching the perfect 325xiT being sold to a couple at the next desk over -- but I'll save those for a mod day and a beer.

Sorry to hear, Dan. Good thing you're OK and the car did it's job
Glad to hear you ended up in another Audi. That's where you belong. You are one lucky bastard for landing a B8. Those are gorgeous.

Well done, Dan-o...glad you are OK. Fire/Rescue LOVE trashing cars...
I looked at an e43 (newer 3-series) the other day that has the rear left corner squished in but was very repairable. The driver said his neck hurt a little so they cut the roof off.
Better safe than sorry...backboards and collars are comfy, aren't they. :P
Did you get a copy of the report, I assume the old lady was assigned full fault and her ins. covered your losses?
Any other photos of the carnage?
Snap a few of the B8 and post 'em up...let's see the new Light-mobile!

Ouch! Sorry for the loss, but glad to hear you're ok
You'll love the B8! It's a completely different beast than your B6. Hopefully we'll see you at the track again.
