They essentially generate future obligations where only a fraction are presented (lost, misplaced, unused, etc.). Better yet, they don't need to remit the unused funds to the state (escheatment laws), 'cause there is no payee. . . what a scam. . .

For the last five years we'd go there with a bunch of friends for New Years. This year we had find a new place (downtown San Jose) due to La Fondue not answering the phone.
