Infineon HPDE crash...

for NASCAR, it's pushed further back from the edge of the track...
normally there is a tire wall/barrier that runs along the base of that hill (from the bridge to the dragstrip.

Amazing. Glad the driver is relatively OK considering. The stands are at drag strip finish line...
... they also might work for T8-T10 if they had a sellout.
I looked at a YouTube video of this year's NASCAR race. K wall around the outside of Turn 1.
And looked at video of the ACNA Oct. HPDE event. Definitely no wall, just dirt runoff, then the small berm mentioned in the NASA forum (that would serve as a launching pad onto the stands).
Can't say I looked over there myself during the ACNA HPDE, I assumed there was a wall over there. And as they say when you assume...
"Scope the escape routes and even far off track hazards" now is going to go along with "identify the active flagging stations" as warm up lap tasks.

Update on driver.
from the NASA Forums, NorCal
Hello all,
I just wanted to update everyone on the drivers situation. Unfortunately the driver (Angelo Zucchi) did not escape completely unharmed, he suffered a shattered vertabrae in the crash and had to have surgery this moorning to repair the damage. However considering the violence of the wreck I think Angelo got away lucky, I walked around the area were his car landed today and the damage is unbelievable. I work with Angelo at the Audi Sportscar Experience and will post updates here when I get them. Please keep Angelo in your thoughts and join me in wishing him a quick recovery.
-Thanks for your concern,
Nick
