Default Plenty of 6spd Tranny's out there

You can find plenty at the <a href="http://car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?userSearch=int&userPID=1000&userLocatio n=All+States&userIMS=&userInterchange=C%3DFDE&user Side=&userDate=2001&userDate2=2001&dbModel=6.12.1. 1&userModel=Audi%20S4&dbPart=400.1&userPart=Transm ission&sessionID=326477556&sURL=car-part.com&userPreference=price&userZip=95131&userLa t=37.3881&userLong=-121.8873&userUID=0&userBroker=&userPage=1&iKey=">w reckers</a>. Or try Stasis for a converted, stronger one.

But I'm not sure the <a href="http://www.elektro.com/~audi/01E/">01E tranny</a> is the right one for the A8, you'll need to experiment with Flywheel attachments and maybe making a very large spacer.

There were some chaps from Vast that did a manual conversion on an S8 but I can't seem to find the link.

Of course if you have a D2 chassis A8 you may be in luck, since there was a Eurospec version of the S8 that had a manual tranny and you can probably get the necessary parts.

Where are you going to do the conversion ? In your garage ? Looking for someone to do the work ? It's going to cost a fortune.

Mind you, I think the whole idea of putting a manual trany in a large sedan is flawed. Rowing with a heavy car is a handful (I know - I have a 6spd in my UrS4). You'd probably be happier converting to sports wheel with Paddles and upgraded TCU, higher stall speed Torque Converter and faster shifting valve body, so you can keep both hands on the wheel and still ride the rpms, and engine brake like a racing driver.

Default Damn straight this is a major / costly job.

Thanks much for your comments/ info/ ideas. Yes this is a big one. I do know of two converions by private partys so far, many I feel will follow cause they hate the ZF. I got a fab shop that can make medical devices and entire race car from tubing off the shelve and just about everything in between. The Manual S-8 conversion would be ideal, so would a early 2000 S-6 Avanti with a 4.2 with manual. These two cars are hard to locate as salvage, yes new parts would be found. The most reasonable way to go is adonor car, blown motor, OBD2 issues, blown turbos, roll over what have you. Just a ton of little stuff to do conversion that a donor car seems the right way to go. Thanks for the used parts resource I will check those the ones out in Calif, cause I located on the central coast, so north or south of here same same, thanks again john
