Possibly relocating to the Bay Area from Colorado - housing question please
Hello members,
I am looking into a possible relocation into the Sunnyvale area from Colorado. We are looking for apartments in that area and I was curious if there are sections we should avoid? Any neighborhoods near the Sunnyvale area that we should stay away from? We dont have kids and would like to stay in a 'young-professionals' area.
Thanks!

Sunnyvale is fine, particularlly if you like south indian food!
(which I do btw)
You should also check out Mountain View (and it's downtown Castro) a little to the north, though that's more pricey.
I'd use this CL/Gmaps mashup, though the data is sometimes a little out of date, but in the current market, rents are down, and places aren't going as fast.

Avoid Sunnyvale along 101...
Avoid along 101 betweeen Mathilda and Lawrence, North of Central is not great.
Best location is closer to Cupertino/Mountain View (South of Central Expy)
If you don't have kids, I would live closer to downtown Palo Alto.
my 2 cents.

2nd...
And if that is getting too expensive, then the Rivermark area in Santa Clara has recently become a lot more affordable...
But definitely PA or Mountain View would be a better choice...There is not much in Sunnyvale...

after 'living' in sunnyvale for over a year now...
i hugely prefer my place in cupertino, or mountain view or downtown palo alto in contrast to sunnyvale. the one benefit that sunnyvale does have is it's bloody close to the caltrain station (but easily remedied if you live in downtown mountain view, downtown palo alto, or even menlo park).
commute wise it's not that much better to be in sunnyvale compared to anywhere else.
the plain facts are there's just not that much to do in sunnyvale. (girlfriend lives in the avalon off lawerence/101 - think our st. john meets) - lack of restaurants, lack of parks, lack of choice, lack of trails, lack of everything except in the random event that you need a new motherboard (fry's is across the street) or you wish to jump on the train (another block further)
pricing wise...sunnyvale is the biggest bang for the buck.

Actually, there's lots of decent stuff between Morse and Fair Oaks just north of 101
I moved into Danbury Place, and it's pretty nice. And I have fiber internet.
Now, the area over by lawrence north of 101 is a different story.

east of 101 is lakeview - not so nice.
but there's a guy there with a 360 and 430 in the garage, along with a M5 or M6 (forgot if he replaced it) in the driveway.
kids from there sneak over the freeway and into the avalon to break into cars. sucks.
