wnut and other SB bikers? Can you suggest a good bike shop? I'm in the market for a new city bike

huh? Usually a some sort of stupid wool beanie/cap with a visor....
since i've been riding road bikes for 35+ years - you can tell i'm not hot on this whole "fixie" thing. Although I'd like to get one to train on again - had one YEARS ago back when Cupertino Bikes and Palo Alto bikes were real bike shops :-)

where are you now? tom @ velotech and dave @ breakaway have been nothing but awesome.
tom has a wait most of the time, but no crazy - drop it off and it will maybe be done in a week time frames
dave usually does things right then and there, makes you go grab lunch and come back. what he charges is ridiculous, i think he lives on tips alone.
anyways...what they say about peddling circles, and smoothing out your stroke is true about these things. i find myself riding it distances more then i find myself riding to starbucks these days - as i am currently road bike-less (waiting on tom @ velotech). it's a whole new world, and i've gained a lot of respect for those who can pedal backwards, trackstand, wheelie, etc on these things - god knows i can't, and would probably kill myself if i attempted so.
cheap. fun. works.

I grew up riding in west San Jose/Saratoga - got my first road bike in 1973....
I live in Vacaville now. While i'm sure some enjoy fixed gear for the riding - most are a bunch of messenger wannabe's. Sorry but if you smoke - you aren't a cyclist. Tricks are tricks - all of which has been done before on BMX bikes - so what if it's a fixed gear now. I don't need a bikeshop for anything - as I have one in my garage - been building bikes as long as I've been riding em. My wife and I trackstand on our tandem :-)
