Default Columbia Sportswear BT: What is the velcro strap on the Hood used for?

Picked up a nice Columbia Jacket that has the removable hood on it, and it appears to have a velco strap on the hood...what's it for?

Is it just used to adjust the overhang of the hood?

Default i've had one for a long time & still can't figure it out

it would make sense, but it doesn't work to secure the hood in the rolled up position. at least, i can't see how to use it that way.

Default Negative...It has a thin wide strip of velcro w/buttons to hold it too the neck...

and then a single pice of velcro attached to the back of the hood with another strip attached to the top. It seems to be an adjustment device of some sort...

Default Found it!

Question
What is the Velcro tab on the back on my hood used for?

Answer

We are glad you asked! The velcro tab on the back of your hood is called a "volume control tab". The purpose of this tab is to adjust the fit of the hood to your desired preference. To tighten the hood, pull the velcro strip down toward the collar and attach it to the velcro strip on the hood; to loosen the fit, separate the velcro tab and resecure it higher up on the hood. This feature will adjust the position of the hood from front to back when it is pulled over your head.

The volume control tab on the hood is sometimes mistaken for a strap to roll up the hood into the collar; however this is not the intended use of this feature.

Default Thanks! It works as described.

It definitely fits/looks better when adjusted properly. I haven't used the hood much to this point, but probably will use it more in the future.
