Code 00293 (Multifunction switch): WHO HAS DEALT WITH THIS?!
Hi folks. I am new to posting on this site, which is surprising given the amount of work I've put in on my car. I own a 1995 A6 Quattro (201K mileage) and it has been quite the adventure since I bought it in 2011. My latest debacle is this 00293 code for the multi-function switch. I recently got some maintenance done on the tranny (new pan, fluid, etc.) as well as a rear main seal leak repair that put me at close to $800 including labor (I wasn't about to pull the tranny myself). NOW, about ONE MONTH LATER, the car goes into limp mode (PRND321 lit up, car shifts hard into R and D, stuck in 3rd), and voila! I pull the multifunction switch code. Has anyone dealt with this? I can't find used switches anywhere that will work, and buying brand new costs about $450-$500. Ridiculous. A few people I've seen posting about this issue have said that they STILL have issues after replacing the switch and sometimes still pull the same code. As a regular struggling American, I only have so much money and can't keep pouring it into this silly car (which I do love when it works and want to keep as long as possible).
