Default Secure ECU?

A friend of mine and myself both have 2017 TT Roadsters. He brought his into an APR dealer in Florida and I took my wife's to an APR dealer in NJ. For both cars the box codes weren't available yet so we had to have the ECUs read and the data sent to APR. I have to take mine back to the installer this week to have the TCU read and submitted, as I want to do both the ECU and TCU.

My friend just let me know that when he talked to the APR rep this past week he was told that they still hadn't been able to crack his ECU and this could very likely be the beginning of the "secure ECU." I haven't heard anything about mine yet.

Has anyone else heard this?
