Also, whatever card you get, make sure you format it as FAT32 first.
Tested on Q5 MY 2012 and MY 2103 and the A4 MY2014

I tried on Win and Mac and can not help it. Simply does not work

Here is one thread confirming that 64GB cards work in newer Audis. The 4000 file limit has been removed as well starting with 2013+ model year. But again, most 64GB and larger cards come preformatted as exFAT, so you need to re-format them as FAT32 first...

64GB SD card confirmed working

But you have already seen this thread since you posted in it.

Pete-
I am probably the nameless user you are remembering as having reported a 64GB SD card works fine. In fact, that post has been updated and as Spijun says, it does NOT work fine in the standard entertainment system. The card works, but any data after the first 32GB on the card is simply not seen and no error is reported back.

The radio has a standard SDHC slot, and that stops at 32GB. Some SD hardware will totally reject cards over 32GB in size, while others simply read the first 32GB and pretend the rest doesn't exist. That's what the standard 2014 Q5 system does.

And shame on Audi, because SDHC was obsoleted by SDXC (2TB limit) in 2009. So much for a self-styled technology leader.

Redd, it was several other users, as per the threads I linked above. I don't know if they've actually gone as far as verify that the system can see space in excess of 32GB though.

I've got a 64 GB card sitting right here, but I've got no Q5, so I can't check.

I could check, but I've already DONE that. I have the card and the car, and I've tested both exFAT and FAT32, and I can say for certain that it doesn't work. Since the radio doesn't read NTFS and FAT16 can't get that big, I'm pretty sure "It don't work" covers all possibilities for this car and this (the stock) radio.

Got it.

Sounds like using a USB flash drive is a good way to go then. Does the AMI interface support USB 3.0 standard? I'm guessing not.

How fast do you want to play your music?

I thought that maybe 3.0 would result in quicker reading of directories and quicker jumping between tracks, but the differences are probably minimal in this application. I'd get a 3.0 flash drive anyway since it'll speed up copy times.

I've found the MMI system to be somewhat slow anyway. A USB 2.0 interface is probably the least of it's problems.

AFAIK not USB3 but all that buys you is more than 500mA of power, which there's no need for, and higher data transfer speeds, which would be useless as well.

Hard drives are unsuitable for moving vehicles, and no flash drive is going to need USB3 to work with a radio.

Oh, USB3 also went obsolete recently. The newest standard has already been formalized, the cables will be the same fitting at both ends, totally reversible, among other refinements.
