2012 Audi Q5 MMI Upgrade?

2012 Audi Q5 MMI Upgrade?
Ok, so I've touched on this before and pretty much concluded that and upgrade from MMI 3G to 3G+ would not me plausible. But then I saw the 2012 Q7. The 2012 Q7 uses MMI 3G+. It comes with bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP). The important thing here is that the car has the exact same MMI control setup as the 2011s, which had MMI 3G. In other words, it still has 8 buttons surrounding the MMI *** with its 4 corners. Most of the new models with 3G+ have only 4 surrounding buttons. the screen also looks to be the same size. The point is that all of this is looking to be just a software update from 2011-2012. So my question here is, why not on the Q5? If all that needs changing is the software (like on the Q7) why can't I just bring it into my dealer and have them upgrade it? The Q7 can do it, so the Q5 should do it to. I don't know how it would work specifically - whether or not it wouldn't be available until the 2013s come out or whether it could just be updated to the 2012 Q7's software - either way it should be possible. I just wish the dealers were more helpful with this stuff.

This has been covered many times. The answer is NO as the new system utilizes a complete new and different hardware system and platform, completely different from our current system.
Unless Audi is willing to, otherwise we are stuck. Think it as a standard business practice. I have inquired this with Audi and their answer is oh then buy the new car.
EDIT:
Hold on, there are two possibilities here as you mentioned that you have seen the same buttons layout on the 2012 Q7 with the newer 3G+ system...
1: The 2012 Q7's MMI system was built was the new hardware platform thus the new system can be used. This opens a possibility that 2012's Q5's hardware is actually ready for the "upgrade" you mentioned. This might leave earlier models in the shadow.
2. The 2012 Q7's MMI system was still old hardware platform however as you mentioned it has been upgraded. However to CONFIRM this the only way is to find a 2011 Q7 with an upgraded system. Otherwise this pretty much shuts the door for massive current-gen platform upgrades.
Either way unless Audi decided to do us a favor and upgrade our current gen to the new system, otherwise we are pretty much stuck. But whatever you mentioned gave us a glance of hope.
PS when you see the 12 Q7's MMI interface, does it look different from the current gen?

Yah I saw a walk-around video for the 2012 Q7 and I just noticed that on the screen the interface was that of 3G+. Then I checked the Audi website to confirm and I was damned to see it really was the 3G+. I have yet to find any 2011s with the upgraded system, but the dealers are INCREDIBLY hard to deal with and they just don't like to go out of their way to help a customer. BUT this was the only reason I reposted this topic. I just can't see any reason why they couldn't just give a simple software update. The only thing that probably wouldn't work is the Audi connect, which I wouldn't use anyways. I don't know the screen sizes and resolutions of the Q5 vs Q7 but I assume they are the same. I am just not seeing any reason why this wouldn't work. I am going to try to call the dealer out on it. I also contacted Audi directly. But for reference, here is the video I watched so you can see for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou5PgWnBiAU It's long, but skip to sometime around 10 min and you'll see it. Check the Audi website to.

Thanks for the video. Yeah it looks like we have the new MMI there with the old key layout... I think there is a chance that this could work.
I think I'm going to research this a little bit. I might stop by my Audi dealer and check it out for myself one of these days.

Please keep us updated and if you can please snap some pictures.
If newer 2012 Q5s came with updated MMI 3G+, and assume that the hardware hasn't changed, I think there is a great chance that we'll get them upgrades soon.
