2012 Q5 with 52,000 miles... from 'Check Oil' to seized engine in 1 day!
I'm 2000 mile outside of my warranty when I saw the yellow 'oil' light turn on. I dropped a Qt of oil in and took it to my mechanic for an oil change the next day. The engine didn't want to start. I got to my mechanic and it never started again. They needed to push it into the bay. Engine is shot.
Can this be related to the recall for the "Crankcase Pressure Regulating Valve" issue? There is no NHTSA RECALL NUMBER yet but the Audi site has an Action Code of 17F9.
I know there were Oil Consumption issues related to Q5 recalls and/or a class-action suit for '09, '10 and '11 models. My engine was manufactured in August of 2011, for what it's worth.
I'm open to any and all suggestions as to how to get Audi to take some ownership (meaning $$) for my new found $7,000 issue.
Regards,

Regards,
I would immediately contact Corporate Audi and open a case number. Explain that you are only 2K miles over the warranty, and that it is ridiculous that the engine self destructs just after warranty without any prior warning or you would have taken it to the dealer prior to the end of the warranty.
I hope that you have good records of all the oil changes, even if you changed by yourself or by an indy shop?

Ed, what's the oil consumption situation with this vehicle? Any black marks in the car's history that you are aware of?

I never had a situation to speak of. I changed the oil regularly, most recently at about 45,000 miles. I was due for another change within the next month or so. No black marks. No consumption issues, until now. The Check Oil light had never come on before. I put a little over 10-12k/yr on the vehicle. Always treated it right...

Too bad to hear. In escalating w/ Audi, I think you want to do at least a preliminary inspection underneath and underhood. Don't just scope lock on older 2.0T oil burning lore. Shop can do that quickly. Thus, be sure filter was tight and didn't spit out oil, oil pan not punctured or something similar. Standard diagnostic techniques. Way back on C1's I actually had one of each over about 600K miles on a bunch of them I maintained, though never lost and engine due to it. Did lose one other due to chronic low oil in my mom's then car.
Need to pull belly cover to look at pan and under area in general. Also look for obvious other external leaks--seals, cracked fittings, plug that came unscrewed {oops!--seen that too }, etc. Obviously if physical damage or service error, non starter with Audi unless dealer did the service and it is related. It becomes an insurance claim if you have comprehensive/collision for any flying objects or other collisions. Flying objects are in a different bucket (like windshield) than collisions like high parking blocks and such, at least in my coverage. Deductible is low on first category.
Seems weird, but until you get to bottom of whether you or someone else will be on the hook, treat vehicle like a quasi evidence scene. Inspections only until anyone you make a claim with can inspect after you first scope it out without changing anything. For $$ involved, they will want to see it in its current form.

see this is what scares me!!! - I have a 2010 A5 2.0T 62K with oil consumption issues and my dealer has been monitoring for a while - and they actually did do some slight engine work to try to resolve it - problem is - they want me to drive until the oil light comes on THEN bring it in...which, to me means, ADD OIL NOW OR ELSE!!! also - I closely monitor the level on the readout and when it dropped to lowest level I got no light....so I added a quart. Kinda aggravating!!
