Default 2012 Q5 Sunroof Frame Leak

I have a 2012 Q5 S Line with 3.2 with 61K with panoramic sunroof that has been diagnosed by Audi Dealer to have a water leak needing the sunroof frame needing to be replaced.

They say Audi will cover 50% of parts cost but even with this bill it is still going to cost me $2500.

Is this fair?

I do not think so as I feel this is a part(s) failure and Audi should be covering the repair.

I am also stunned that a so called car of this quality could have this sort of problem. The car has not been in a wreck.

Contact other dealers and AOA.

Part of the joy of owning a German automobile. You're relatively high mileage and out of warranty, so that fact Audi is doing *anything* for you sounds as though they are going above and beyond.

I do not think 61K is high mileage and for frame damage to occur what does that say about the poor bulid quality of Auidi and how they do not value their customers.

61k may or may not be considered high mileage, but the key is the car is out of factory warranty. An unfortunate situation but at least AoA is willing to do something.

Maybe you could look into buying the parts and finding you own installer and save some money.

61K is not high mileage in anyone's book, just the warranty book. Audi dealers aren't likely to help, all they want to do is sell cars. Sad truth about today's dealerships. There's a reason we call them $tealer$hips.

You are right about out of warranty but the frame should not need replacing.

Sorry to hear about your issue, but as others have mentioned, you're unfortunately out of warranty. Audi isn't really obligated to cover anything at this point. That being said, I would consider the following.

1. If you've purchased Audis previously, or if you've at least gotten your services done at this dealer, try to leverage that into some goodwill. If you dangle the carrot of more future business, maybe that gets you something. I get the angst people have towards dealerships, but they're in the business of making money.

2. As Q5 Bob suggested, I'd take it to an idependent body shop and see if they can give you an estimate on the work. I'd imagine the rates would be significantly better. It's always best to get a second opinion on a major repair anyway.

3. If by chance you have Geico, you may have mechanical breakdown insurance on your policy. I know Geico put it on my policy (unbeknownst to me) when I insured my new car, but I wanted it added anyway. It covers out of warranty repairs minus a $250 deductible. I'm pretty sure other insurers have similar coverage options, so it's worth at least checking into.

My sunroof frame was replaced this year under warranty because of rattling. If you search this forum quite a few ppl had this done, so there is something wrong with it. Last two weeks I had my navigation module replaced because it was getting a brain freeze and then a water pump and a thermostat replaced because they were leaking crazy. 28k miles. There were some other repairs before. Love the car, dealer has been great so far, but I'm really starting to think hard if I should keep this car beyond warranty .... I was planning on keeping it a long time, but now I'm not so sure ....
