USB in 2014 Q5
I'm getting pretty close to getting a Q5 and have been looking at the 2013's. Really the only thing that has really bothered me is the lack of a USB port.
Don't get me wrong, a lot of that can be overcame by Bluetooth Streaming, but it is still annoying. The 2013 still has the Apple 30pin connector and Apple is obviously phasing this out. Seems silly to not have something a little more universal.
Anyway, for those of you with 2014s on order or just arriving... Does the 2014 still have the 30 pin connector or have they finally updated?
Thanks!

You can find the USB adapter at eBay or Amazon. Just be aware that if you use a USB device (or SD card) the MMI does not have access to the music metadata ... Ie, you'll have to organize the music yourself via folder structure.

My 2014 came with the "blue grommet" AMI-to-Apple 30pin connector. It won't work with a new iPod and Apples lightning-to-30pin adapter.
I really prefer NOT to use the USB, because (as RareWolf noted) you don't get full control over the device.
Note that even the base sound system comes with an SD card slot, so if you only update your music 2-3 times per year, this is a good option.
@GeorgeHF
Can you please check the color of the "grommet" (strain relief) at the AMI end of your cable? My "blue" cable, new iPod, and lightning-to-30pin assembly isn't recognized by the 2014 Concert system.

I have a 2011 Q5 and I'm pretty sure that it's the blue one. I'll have to double check. I did buy the adapter dongle cable and not just the adapter, if that makes a difference. I don't use it that often as my iPod broke and I find that i forget my iPhone 5 in the glove box almost every time I do use it.

2014 Q5 music for dummies
Hi everyone - I'm a newish member and apologize that this is likely a question that has been asked before, but I'm having trouble finding an answer from the archives. I have a 2014 Q5 TDI on order and was wondering what is the best way to set up music in the car when it arrives...
1. I've read that a MMI to USB cable can be purchased. Shoud I ask my dealer for this, or is there a large cost difference between buying this from the dealer vs online?
2. Another post on this thread alluded to a loss of control capabilities when using a USB device. What does this mean? What can you do on iPod that you can't on a USB drive?
3. I thought I also read that the iPod pin interface changes music to analog and reduces quality. If true, how does everyone feel about the trade off? Does the additional control over the device trump the reduced quality? Should I just go buy an iPod now?
4. Does the "lack of control" also apply to sd cards?
5. What is the maximum size sd cards that can be used in the sd slots? It seems that members have successfully used cards that are larger that recommended by Audi - true?
6. How large is the hard drive in the Q5? I did order Nav/MMI.
Again, sorry if this is a duplicated question. Thank you for your insights!!
