Default 2013 Facelift Tail Lights Upgrade

Hi all,

I would really like to upgrade the lighting on my 2010 Premium Plus. Has anyone purchased these lights on ebay? In wondering if the LED's and construction of lamp housing is the same to a genuine audi part purchased at US dealer, in particular appearance, function and reliability.

Audi Q5 Facelift LED Rear Tail Stop Brake Lights Left Right Pair 2012 | eBay

Here is comment from seller in Latvia
"This is the OE part produced by the approved OEM manufacturer Magnetti Marelli ex BOSH production. Brand new, in the Original Magneti Marelli packake. It is NOT labeled Audi. The part is genuine to the original. The item will perfectly replace your old part if it's OEM number is 8R0945094C 8R0945093C.

it works, just you need to buy an adapter and possible vag coding

Hi Sleeper,

Thanks for the response. I have a few additional questions.

Why possibly vag coding for rear tailights. From what i understand this is a direct plug-in with the correct connector, no coding is required unless I would like to change the factory function. The front lights require coding. I am i wrong

Have you actually completed retrofit yourself? I would like to hear from somone who has used these lightsl; as far as quality, appearance and reliability.

you will need to code them that is suitable for your country. UK has different turn signals compared to USA. i have a 2014 Q5 at home as well as a 2012 Q5. done a swap before with the adapter. it worked fine. didnt really test it out 100%.

For MY 2010 need adapter like this:
Adapter facelift LED rear lights Audi Q5-39605_M
Adapter facelift LED rear lights Audi Q5 - Q5 8R - Need4Street Automotive GmbH

Need VCDS to change adaptation channel, not for coding

Comfort module [46]
- security code: 16017
- channel for the tail lights coding: 195 – 210

Something like this:
channel: 195 -- 6148
channel:196 --6180,
channel:197 --5,
channel:198 -- 37,
channel:199 -- 10248
channel:200 -- 10280,
channel:201 -- 14855,

The taillight will work with the adapter harness without any VAG coding. I have a 2010 model and the main difference on how the taillights work between pre and post facelift for U.S. model is how the turn signal and brake light work.

Pre-facelift:
Turn and brake work independent of each other

Post-Facelift
Turn and brake work in conjunction.

With a pre-face lift model, you will only need to code if you want the turn and stop light to work in conjunction like post-facelift models.

The part numbers 8R0945094C 8R0945093C you listed appear to be for EU spec taillights. Which have a yellow turn signal as opposed to US spec which are red turn signals. Since Pre-facelift coding is set to work indepedent you will be fine without any VAG coding. Only Post-facelift wanting to use EU spec taillight will have to chagne their coding from in conjunction to independent.

As for the adapter, Kufatec's adapter will not work with US spec vehicles. I had a member from another forum contact me to build him the correct adapter harness after he ordered the one from Kufatec did not work. If you notice on the photo of the adapter. The old connector is a 4 connector housing as opposed to the US spec 8 connector housing. If interested in a set of harnesses please PM me and I can give you further details. This is what the harnesses I make look like.

Does anyone know the coding to get the facelift model in North America to work like pre-FL?
I'd much prefer independent braking and turn signal lights.

Thanks blaster. I've been piecing together info. And from what I've read your statement is what I gathered. The EU facelift rears are a direct plug-in for pre-facelift US rears with a connection adapter. Not kufatec.

Im pretty handy. The electrical seems simple if I could find the correct connector with pins. But ordering a pre-made sounds nice and simpler for me if the price is right.

Does anyone know if there is an all encompassing DIY for the heads and tails. Elbroths seemed to have the most info, but thread is alot of posts and he has a euro version vehivle.

Tail light when they are on have less visibility than with brake on... They works together and Im not sure if its right. Thanks for any input
