Default 2013 Q5 subwoofer upgrade

Hey guys, I drive a 2013 Q5 with the B&O upgrade.

I want to replace the stock sub in the car but I want to do it in a way where it doesn't take up any of the current trunk space. I think my best option would be to remove the stock sub and slide something in that is the same size.

What I want to know is what is the size of the stock sub? and do you guys have any recommendations on anything i could fit in the current size?

appreciate the help!

I'm not sure of the exact size but it's easy enough to remove and measure. It's just one of those plastic units mounted in the spare wheel.

And exactly because it IS fitted into the spare tire assembly/bracket, it's not that easy to replace. Definitely DIY or do research into some of the other solutions on this board.

It's a 6.5", but not all subs that size will fit.

There have been a couple of threads on this in the past.
Try searching for woofer or sub-woofer.

If you want some inspiration, give this Cayenne install a look. The Q5 is fairly similar, with the space saver, inflatable spare tire.

Hat tip to the incredible guys @ Simplicity In Sound in Cali for this install.

We are going to do either a 10" or 12" subwoofer in the tire well. There is plenty of space in there.
Is hers coming with or without the B&O?

Coming with, but we're going to take it all out.
Just added it because it's such a cheap upgrade and when reselling people will want it.

I've seen a few threads on here people doing just that, and there was basically very little improvement from doing this. Given its size and location, there is just not much you can do with that stock sub to make it better.

The next easy thing to do would be to add a powered sub that will fit under the trunk floor, in the area in front of your spare (by removing the plastic storage tray that's in there). Something like this would work:

Sound Ordnance B-8PTD 125-watt compact powered subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

It still only uses an 8" woofer, so the bass isn't going to be earth shattering, but there is only so much you can do if you absolutely don't want to take up any trunk space.

I was considering adding this SO sub to my wife's Q5, but after hearing the stock system (non-B&O), the bass is actually not that bad. Either that, or my ears aren't as discriminating as they once were. In any case, I'm just leaving it as is.

Maybe the B&O is different but the stocker is 6", not 6.5" -- a funky size that is difficult to find, even at large online audio parts stores such as PartsExpress.
