We have a 2010 Q5, which I would like to replace later this year, or in the beginning of the 2015. We tried X3 - to stiff, seats not very comfortable; GLK 350 was a little to low and harder to get in-out, and my daughter complained that there was no legroom in rear; XC60 did not drive as well as Q5, and Evoque was not comfortable to drive at all (and very questionable reliability of LR and Volvo excluded those at this point).
We find the Q5 a little stiff riding, and after the winter potholes take a painful toll on our low backs.

Did any of you drive the Allroad? If yes, how did you find it?

We did not like RDX, and wife does not like the ride of my RX350 (too soft/cushy).

When I was looking to replace my past Q5, I looked at the Allroad. Nice car, but I was so used to the easy ingress/egress of the Q and the ride height. Dollar for dollar, the Q is a better value, and I think resale will be far better than an Allroad.

But don't listen to me, go sit in one and drive it if your dealer has one.

Those are my experiences coming from a 2.0T. I think it would be a completely different car for you since you're not only going to a lower ride height, but you're also coming from a 3.2.

Well, it's going to be entirely up to you and your decision criteria.

IMO:
* The Allroad looks "cobbled up"
* The new Q5 rides a little better than your 2010
* The Q5 is a better value
* The 3.0T is a very nice drivetrain; not available in the Allroad
* The 2.0T will be every bit as good as your old 3.2; certainly torquier

I was loaned a brand new 2014 All Road for 1 day when they were prepping my Q5 after delivery. I really didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I felt like it was much smaller and everything seemed crunch in up front on the dash compared to the Q5. It is more difficult to climb in and out of the Allroad just because it is so much lower to the ground, although because of this the Allroad has a much higher "fun factor" when driving, it is much more nimble and responsive especially if you are more on the aggressive side of driving. At the end of it, I prefer the Q still, easier to get in and out of as well as hauling stuff, The interior of the Q is better from a look and feel do it being better proportionate to the car, this is totally a personal decision as others will feel different about it. Really they are close to being the same car so the differences will be from a personal perspective and what the majority of driving you would be doing in it. The Q just has more room and is a little bigger, if you don't need the extra room the Allroad is definately a "fun" ride.

I was looking at Consumer Reports 2014 auto issue and was surprised to see that the Predicted Reliability of the Allroad, based on their Owner Surveys, was "well above average" and for the Q5 2.0t "average", which is down from "above average" the previous year.

Last year in the U.S. Audi sold 5,386 Allroads compared to 40,365 Q5's so there is a smaller sampling of owners, but interesting info nonetheless.

There were some tweaks to spring rates and shock absorbers the occurred with the minor update in 2013. We have a 2013 3.0T. I got a 2011 2.0T as a loaner during service. I wasn't thinking about it but, while driving the loaner, it came through to me that the ride was noticeably harsher.

You can probably find some information on it from 2013 road tests. Some of them mention it. I think I remember that spring rates were softened and shocks firmed up.

Test drove the allroad last fall, very nice car but not sporty enough for my wife for daily driver and 2.0 not peppy enough. Mind you, she came from a Jeep SRT8 and we were looking to downsize some while retaining (hopefully) some good handling and decent power. Immediately after test driving the allroad, she took the SQ5 out and that was exactly what she was looking for. I can't vouch for the regular Q5 as we didn't test it, perhaps the allroad would have been the choice if there was no SQ5.
