ZF 8HP55? 8HP45? Just curious what the model is and if it's the same among all Q5 models. Seems like with a TDI it would need a stronger transmission..?

This indicates that Q5 uses the 8HP55

from that wiki page:

"8HP55 550 550 Audi Q5, Audi Q7, Audi A8 and A8L (D4)"

The ratings 550 are for the max torque for diesel and gasoline engines. Audi alreayd have diesel engines worldwide, so when the spec'd this tranny from ZF to design, they knew they needed 500+ ft-lb rating.

The version for BMW is rated to 700ft lbs so BMW can use it on some larger diesel powerplants on their 7 series.

On the flip side, so thsoe with the 2.0T, it's good to know that the tranny is not all that stressed, so a little trailer towing is a low risk proposition. ON my Honda CR-V that it replaced, it wasn't pretty. You really had pay attention, even with overdrive off, on how long you allowed the torque converter to stay unlocked before you had to slow down more. The Honda 5 speed was gear SOOOO tall for fuel economy it was ridiculous. A small gust of wind would unlock the TC sometimes if you have a couple passengers on he smallest incline.

Interesting, I would have thought a lighter duty one would be used in the 2.0T as a way to save on weight, etc. I guess there could be slight modifications still between the models.

Audi uses three different transmissions for the Q5

Audi SQ5 3.0TDI 650 Nm . How can be installed transmission of max 550Nm ?????

There is a nonsense on wikipedia: A8 3.0TDI 580Nm Audi A8 4,2TDI 850 Nm , A8 4.0TFSI 600Nm

New 8HP55A is 650Nm not 550Nm

So do we know what the max is for the transmissions in the Q5 with these motor combinations?

2.0 TFSI:?
3.0 TFSI:?
3.0 TDI:?

I'm interested in the 2.0, but if the transmission can't handle much more, might be best to spend the $ and go with the 3.0 TFSI or 3.0 TDI...
