Default Audi recalling 70k TDI models worldwide over braking problem

Obviously the new 2014 Q5 TDI is not listed in the recall as the build was March - December of 2012 but wondering if anyone has heard of any issues?

Seems like this is a very specific time frame that is being recalled.

Here is the article.....

The report indicates that while the brakes in these vehicles still function, the enhancing power from the booster may fail due to a possible leaky membrane.

All of the affected vehicles are powered by the 3.0-liter TDI turbodiesel V6, and were built between March and December of 2012. It is unclear as of this writing how many of these vehicles are in the States, though remember, US customers are not privy to 3.0 TDI examples of the A4 or A5. Autoblog has reached out to Audi for specific numbers, and we'll update this space when we hear more.

UPDATE: Audi spokesperson Mark Dahncke confirmed that this recall affects 1,814 vehicles in the United States – all 2013 model year Q7 TDI vehicles built between June 5 and November 29, 2012.

The Q5 is not even listed..... I don't believe the US Q5 TDI models were even produced in the window of problem production. Although, if anyone has an A4, A5, A6, A7, or Q7 TDI they should contact their service dept.

Mine was manufactured in February, which is definitely not affected, so I'm not worried.

Only the Q7 (and A3, not part of the recall) TDI was here in the US at the time, but of course Europe's had TDIs on all models for forever, so you'll see a lot of models as part of any TSBs or recall actions.

With the few-month build date window, it was most likely a single bad lot for the component(s) in question. Not a catastrophic issue, either, but since it affects brakes it's immediately a safety issue and therefore requires a recall. At least VAG is good about notifying affected owners and dealerships should be checking for recalls and TSBs each time you go in in case you haven't gotten your notification yet.
