Default Black out the chrome?

Is there an ideal way to black out the chrome such as this?

Remove the chromed parts and have them replated with a "black chrome". That's permanent and durable.

Or go to an auto wrap place, or look online for the wrap. If you do it carefully with a matte black wrap or "carbon fiber" wrap, you can get something close that can always be removed later.

You can also use plastidip. It's not permanent so you can go back to original look easily.

Does the plastidip scratch easily?

Platidip has been pretty durable for me. Painted the grille on my truck a few years back. Still looked great when I sold it last week.

It does scratch, but so easy to redo or just add another coat to.

IMO, plastidip will give you the best of both worlds..for the cheapest price. You can have the blacked out look with the ability to change back to chrome. Plus, you can do it in driveway.

They also offer plastidip clear coat protective coats...might be worth looking into as well.

Good idea. I wished I had gotten the black trim version ......
Plus you can put it where you want it ( or not).

Big "D"

Yes, it can be...you can get in a rattle can for about $8...at least you can around here.

I did my exhaust tips and rear Audi logo about 6 months ago....they still look good, and match the rest of the black trim on my car.

This is how I usually paint some with Palstidip. I am sure there are a lot of different methods...however this one works for me.

Items needed
Paint (Plastidip)
Tape (mask off the area)
Newspaper
toothpicks...not a lot but has to be pretty good quality

I clean the area or part...let it dry. tape off the area...don't have to be real neat just get close as you can. Clean it again with a clean rag and rubbing alcohol. Let it dry.
Shake your can up....REALLY GOOD. Apply a light coat over the part or area you want ot paint. Wait 20 minutes. Apply a second coat a bit heavier that you did the first (want to make sure you have a little bit of paint on the entire area this time). Wait 20 minutes. Apply another coat (just like last time). Wait 20 minutes. IF your happy with how it looks than we wait another 20 minutes, ensuring it is dry...if not than apply another coat. Once your happy and the paint has dried for at least 30 minutes...remove your tape and newspaper. You can use the toothpick to carefully dig out the plastidip off the cracks and hard to read areas.

This is the first link found but sure there are a lot more.
