Black out the chrome?
#11
Just Plasti Dipped the chrome surround on my grille. Takes some patience and time, but its so damn cheap and effective.
Have to remove the radiator cover, and stick some cardboard down there so you don't spray into the radiator and clog it.
I used a decent amount of painters tape and plastic wrap to save in clean up time.
Sprayed 4 coats and waited 15-20min in between.
and BOOM. There is a decent amount of clean up since I was a little careless here and there, but I rather use my time and do this then pay someone.

No issue w exhaust tips? I didn't think it was suppose to work due to heat from the tips?
Platidip has been pretty durable for me. Painted the grille on my truck a few years back. Still looked great when I sold it last week.
It does scratch, but so easy to redo or just add another coat to.
IMO, plastidip will give you the best of both worlds..for the cheapest price. You can have the blacked out look with the ability to change back to chrome. Plus, you can do it in driveway.
They also offer plastidip clear coat protective coats...might be worth looking into as well.

BP,
I haven't had any issues with my A4 or my Q5. Painted them about almost a year ago. The paint had lasted through the winter here (snow, salt, and crap) with no issues. Best part is when it does start to fall apart. I clean it off and repaint it. Takes about an hour or so to do them.
Not the best pictures but a before / after look.

Actually no. I did them when I took the rear bumper of to install the frame hitch.
If i had to do it again, I just use some wide blue tape to block of the area above the tips (bumper) and tape and newspaper for the sides and bottom.
I also, painted my Audi symbol too...
For that one, I basically taped off a rectangle around the rings. Painted it ( 4 coats). Let it dry, peeled the over spray off of the outside rings. Then used a toothpick to peel the over spray out of the inside rings. Think it took me about 10 minutes to clean all the over spray off.
