Default First TDI road trip, Tulsa to Dallas and back

Left Friday and returned today (Sunday). Mostly highway to and from and speed limits from 45 to 75 mph. Had to drive some miles in Dallas residential, but not many, as my friends drove most of the time while I visited. AC was on and the occasional pedal-stab was required, but I usually drive the posted speed limit or 2 mph over.
Trip meter read 504 total miles, 54 mph average speed, 35.6 mpg, and 9.24 hours. Broke through the 1000 mile plateau on the odometer very soon after I left the driveway on Friday. Have approximately 1/4 tank of diesel left to burn.
Nav system was flawless, I might add....no misdirections and the side assist was working overtime on 75 S in Dallas. It's akin to a NASCAR race, three-wide, nose to tail at 70.

Great trip, excepting the misery of sitting in the Cotton Bowl in 93* heat witnessing my Sooners get whacked by the Longhorns. It's a great rivalry and what NCAA football is all about.

GoldenBear: the handful of us with the TDI are getting great mileage so far. Look for MarkP's thread "Updated MPG from last full tank of diesel". Several of us are getting 37+ on highway. Sweet!

There is also the thread about the cross-country TDI challenge, where auto journalists drove various new diesels across the country, with outstanding results. See links:

Here's the punchline. For their cross-country trip:
The Q5 TDI achieved 38.623 mpg at an average speed of 61.90 mph. (vs. the EPA fuel economy rating for the Q5 TDI of 24 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, 27 mpg combined).

Enjoy yours when it comes it. It is DEFINITELY worth the wait.

Great to hear! Please calculate actual mpg for tank when you fill up. If you had reset trip comp #2 when you filled up last, compare to that as well. I, and others, are seeing it 10% optimistic. After my next tsnk I'll adjust the calculation/accuracy via vagcom.

Oh, and if you want, keep your fill-up info in fuelly.com so we get more tfi's in there. You can add the little sig widget too

Thanks for the info 914. I appreciate all of the real world reports from the TDI owners as I have one more month to wait for mine.

I have also been regularly checking out the TDI reviews online. Here is a new review done by cnet http://reviews.cnet.com/suv/2014-aud...-35828361.html.
