Yeah, this doesn't make any sense.

Don't know.

Can anyone confirm the steering parts are not common with 2.0T A4s and Q5s ?

Anyway, I only see people with 3.0T having the issue right now...

Default Dangerous Steering Defect SQ5

I have a 2015 SQ5 with not even 3000k on it, the stering wheel failed yesterday as I was driving, fortunately I was on a side street.
The steering wheel could not be moved.

The warning light came on simultaneously not before:
" Do not drive steering wheel defectiive"

Really!
Unfortuantely I was still driving when it failed!

Had this happened on an expressway it would have been fatal.

It was 21 below that day (centigrade) I warmed the car up for 7 minutes before I drove it.

Reading these threads Audi has know about his for some time.
Any insights?

That is a heck of a lot of different steering rack revisions for a single Q5, 2014 model year, obviously Audi had issues to keep revising it

You would need to do a lot of investigation by VIN number just to see what steering rack part number(s) are causing problems.

Sorry about your story. It seems the fail happens at under 30km/h. Don't know why the CPU decides it is time to fail at under 30. I mean if it senses a fault it'll wait you get under that speed?

Where are you located?

As mentioned prior, for any Canadian owners with this issue, please contact Darryl Malone at Transport Canada via email darryl.malone@tc.gc.ca. He is looking to hear from any other Cdn owners as they are now investigating and this will be the main reason any recall ever gets done.

Lol the 2.0T Q5 was fine during the week I got it ;-) It was cold !

BTW just got my SQ5 back. God I love this machine... Let's hope it doesn't fail again.

Steering rack part number is 8R1-423-055-BE. According to my search on the net, it's true it replaces 6 past versions of the 8R1-423-055 racks. STEERING | Genuine Volkswagen | 8R1-423-055-BE

They did the job in 7 business days.

So far in this thread its all 2014-15 SQ5 owners, does it mean so far there are no reported steering failures with the 2010-2013 owners? The steering rack is different between the 2.0T vs 3.0T/SQ5? Did the dealer say what was different with this version of the steering rack that should stop the problem from happening again?

This is the only issue keeping me away from buying one. Might have to go with the X3 if this issue is not fixed.
